With over 20 years of experience, we’ve taught many students who are new to dance. Below, we’ve laid out a few things to think about before your child’s first dance lesson.
What Style Of Dance Is This?
We offer several styles of dance for our students. That includes ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop among others. Each style has its own unique movements, positions, and forms. It’s always a good idea to meet the instructor of your child’s dance class before the class starts. This way, you can discuss what the expectations of the lessons are, as well as the style of the dance being taught. Your child might be interested in one style of dance more than another, and so having an understanding of what we offer in our dance studio can help you select a dance style that is exciting for both you and your child.
What To Wear?
Each style of dance also has its own particular set of clothing and even footwear. This is most obvious in dance styles like ballet, which require specialized pointe shoes, or tap dance, which uses tap shoes. Most of our classes require that students wear a bodysuit, with colors that match the grade of the performer. Other styles might have students wear additional elements like dance shorts or a ballet skirt. It’s best to ask the dance studio instructor what the attire for that style is ahead of time, and of course, you can always review our attire requirements page to figure out what your child needs to wear to each class.

Starting a new activity like dancing can sometimes leave children feeling a little intimidated. They may have never tried dancing in a studio before or they might feel shy around others.
